Foundation of HopeProvides families with support. Negba started the Hope Foundation to enhance the lives of the families of the children it cares for. Working in close collaboration with city welfare services, Negba offers different types of support such as psychological counseling, financial assistance and career training. Because dysfunction in the family is often the root cause of social deviance, assisting the families of children at risk is an integral part of the success of any educational program. Clearly a healthy, autonomous family is the best source of a child's wellbeing. This is why Negba created the Hope Foundation. The Foundation provides different types of support to the families of children hosted at the Houses of Hope. First of all, the children all receive regular support as a function of need, including school supplies, clothes and shoes, medical care not covered by social security (glasses and dental care), and families receive baskets of prime necessities. The Foundation also organizes bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies for the House children. In addition, the Foundation can provide one-time financial assistance in emergencies. This primarily involves cases of sudden loss of lodging or revenue. However the prime goal of the Foundation is to encourage these families to support themselves in the long term. By working with the city welfare department, the Foundation enables families to receive psychological counseling to help them evaluate their situation objectively, define their priorities and their children's, and learn to cope with family responsibilities. In addition, because many of the mothers have little or no schooling (some do not know how to read or write), the Foundation makes an effort to provide for their own personal development: night classes, career training, job searches, and help in setting up small private companies or cottage craft industries. |
