Summer CampCamps for primary school children in the month of July. Negba camps provide a range of activities to children who would otherwise be on the streets. For children from low income families, summertime is often synonymous with boredom and the temptations of delinquency. The Houses of Hope run summer camps during the summer vacation open to members of the Houses as well as to children from nearby neighborhoods. During the month of July, each House runs a summer camp which associates play and cultural activities. Summer school lessons are available for those behind in school. Trips to places of interest in Israel are one of the major calling cards for these children who rarely leave their immediate environment. These trips also reduce their feeling of isolation and reinforce their feeling of belonging to a larger community they can value. The camps operate 5 hours a day; the children are given regular meals and all the equipment they need for camp activities. The personnel are made up of the regular House staff assisted by groups of volunteers – teachers, students, high school students and retired professionals.
